During these cold months is very important to keep your battery charged. When not in use, a battery discharges on a daily basis sometimes up to 0.5-1%. Charging is critical in winter since batteries have to work so much harder in cold weather. Engine oil is thick, so engine cranking effort is much higher. Also, a battery’s charging efficiency decreases in cold temperatures. In addition, gasoline does not vaporize as readily in the cold, which means that even more battery cranking effort is required. Using an automatic charger like this Bikemaster Automatic Charger is an easy way to keep your battery fully charged.
Helder Rodrigues now has almost half an hour of advantage over fourth placed Jordi Viladoms in the 2012 Dakar after a steady ride to 7th through the difficult sand and dunes of Nasca in Peru. The 245km special saw the Portuguese further consolidate his bid for a second consecutive podium result in the world’s toughest rally. Olivier Pain is just inside the top ten, in ninth spot, with an eight minute gap over Brazilian Felipe Zanol.
Marcos Patronelli defeated his brother by less than a minute to claim his second stage success and front six Yamaha YFM700Rs in the Quad classification. Alejandro Patronelli has a lead of one hour and twenty minutes in his quest to defend his 2011 title. Camelia Liparoti holds a very creditable ninth place overall.
The penultimate stage of the Dakar involves almost 280km of special through yet more sand a dunes for the most part. It will be the last test of endurance for the riders as the symbolic final run to Lima will take just 29km.
With 100 kilometres of link route to cover, but especially 275 kilometres against the clock, the thirteenth and penultimate day of the Dakar will be of capital importance. In fact it will be the last opportunity to make a decisive difference the day before the finish, as tomorrow will offer a special of just 29 kilometres. The dunes again have pride of place in this part of the country. The competitors still have a big day ahead of them. They will have to deal with a not inconsiderable number of dunes, avoid confusion in the similar but diverging valleys and fight against tiredness setting in after covering several thousands of kilometres. It is at this point that each of them will remember exactly what extreme endurance really means. Source:Dakar.com
WHEN SHOULD A HELMET BE REPLACED?
The life of a helmet depends on how it is used. A helmet should be replaced if one or more of the following points apply:
1. There was a fall that resulted in an impact on the helmet.
2. The helmet fits looser than when it was purchased due to frequent use.
3. The EPS liner has come away from the helmet shell.
4. The EPS liner shows signs of wear and is beginning to break up, or if it has been exposed to heat or a solvent and has melted.
